Schmitt’s Bill Would Prohibit Continuous Driving in the Left Lane

HARRISBURG – Legislation that would improve highway safety in Pennsylvania, sponsored by Rep. Lou Schmitt (R-Blair), has been introduced in the House of Representatives.

House Bill 1376 would make it an offense for a motorist to impede the flow of traffic by continuously driving in the left lane of a limited-access highway. The violation would carry a fine of $25, plus costs. No points would be assessed.

“We all know how frustrating it is to drive behind a motorist in the left lane who refuses to move over,” said Schmitt. “In addition to improving driver safety and traffic flow, I also believe this legislation will lead to a reduction in the number of road rage cases in the Commonwealth.”

House Bill 1376 has been referred to the House Transportation Committee.
